“Received in Bitterness” is the first full-length album by The Sour Notes, released on January 1, 2009 along with a bonus track-cover of Jawbreaker’s “Accident Prone”. The album was multitrack recorded by Jared Boulanger and Chris Page, using only two microphones in the laundry room of their Cherrywood-area Austin home. The album features guest vocals by friends Micaila San Miguel, Sarah Harrison and brass sections by Matt Holmes and Tina Le. The track “Your Pretty Sphynx Voice” contains audio samples from the Jean-Luc Godard film “Alphaville”. It was mixed by Steve Christensen at The Treehouse in Houston and mastered by Joe LaPorta at The Lodge in Manhattan. Original cover art illustrated by Rene Cruz.
