about

This album was recorded in the summer, fall and winter of 2010. It was released February 17th, 2011.

This album was mostly recorded in a small one bedroom house in Hyde Park of Austin, TX, off 38th and Speedway where we practiced and recorded late into the night with never a neighborly complaint. Some drums were recorded at Sugar Hill Studios onto tape with Steve Christensen in Houston, TX. The rest of the drums were recorded in an apartment on East 5th in Austin, TX.

At the time of this recording, the band consisted of: Jared Boulanger, Chris Page, Amarah Ulghani, Taylor Steinberg and Kelly Dewitt.

about

"Never short on hooks or ambition, The Sour Notes play brittle pop for star-crossed post-grads... On rising tides of lonesome guitars and glimmering synths, the band builds its postmillennial laments, occasionally nodding to Krautrock and frequently conceding to soundtrack-worthy mood."-Erik Adams, The Onion AV Club, www.avclub.com/artists/the-sour-notes,13870/ ... more

Track Name: Nothing's More Contagious Than Evil
Nothing’s More Contagious Than Evil

You weren’t afraid of my body before you took the skin off my bones
You weren’t afraid of my body before you were akin to my touch
Too-hard to speak your mind though
You’ll have to keep your eyes closed
You were a pain that I tried to ignore without a peep from my mouth
You weren’t afraid to die fighting for more than what good people try for
But we don’t seem to mind now
Don’t have to cling to my crowd
You’ll have to sink to my ground
Don’t be afraid to find out how low
You weren’t afraid to try
Track Name: Hot Pink Flares
Hot Pink Flares

How quickly you confuse the thought
So cliche’ the conclusions are
Hot pink flares turn into a spark
Short-lived hey, but the music goes on… and on
I’ve laid my tired head down one too many times now
This lonely little life’s all you really deserve
This lonely little life’s all you’re ready to swim around
This lonely little life’s all you’re ready to run around
This lonely little life’s all you really deserve
This lonely little life is your world
It’s the only life that you know
This lonely little life’s all you’re ready to swim around
Track Name: Big Dreams
Big Dreams

Who knows what I’ll do when you’re over me
Fancy girl, you see big things for yourself
Who knows what I’ll do when you’re over me
No matter where you turn to get through the night
No matter who you call to make things right
Every nickel, every dime you toss me
Cuts you out a bigger piece of the pie
Big dreams, big joke… There’s nothing I can do to stop you
Track Name: Hot Here Under The Roof
Hot Here Under the Roof

Cheap shot… To your room
Sweetheart… It’s your move
Big shock… Doom and gloom
Ingmar… Knows you’re due
He knows you are
Think hard… Through and through
Track Name: The Moment You Feel It
The Moment You Feel It

To overcome prisons, let me know the moment you need out
If you’re the cause of distance, let it show the moment you feel it
If you want competition… Do like so
A stake through the heart
A knock to the skull
A kick in the balls
Is that what you want?
A slip of the tongue
A twist of the arm
A shot in the dark
Is that what you want?
The moment you feel it
Track Name: As Crude As Watercolor
As Crude As Watercolor

New words are rollin’ off my tongue
Till fewer line up and come undone one by one
Keep it up with a pun and play it with a loaded gun
Thinking of ways to part, but oh the world I’ll never turn back from
And the wait goes on
How barely it does
Who knows I’m runnin’?
As true as day comes and crude as watercolor
Soon they’ll wake up older
And the wait goes on…
The scene’s so different from ours
It seems so deaf and confound
Too-weird and trivial to perceive so let it go by
Track Name: More Contour
(Instrumental)
Track Name: Last Looks
Last Looks

It’s not just rock n’ roll to some… And we can’t seem to get enough
It’s not just rock n’ roll because, you can see what it does
Who can see it for what it was?
Just one sad song to drag you down
And it hurts to know it took me so long to lose myself like that
Before my years are up and gone
Not everyone can see right in, but we’re forced to look
Track Name: Particularly Shrill
Particularly Shrill

It drains down low, so try and find a way through this hole
To give some love requires any hatred to flow
Follow where those hopes and dreams go
Forward and backward till there’s no return
It’s a turn-on, but it’s hollow
Baby, it don’t pay at all
Hopped up on coke with no raincoat
For worse, for better… You know there’s a reason
It’s a turn-on, but it’s hollow
Baby, it don’t pay at all
Soon you’ll be wondering one day… What is it for?
As soon as you want more
